materials
metal frames
•product components are machine pressed from mild steel
•the distinctive scrolled features are hand-forged by fire
•completed parts are assembled by hand with hammer, anvil
and rivets in the traditional method
painted finish
•components are galvanised to prevent corrosion
•primed with an anti-corrosive etch primer in a dip tank to
ensure complete coverage
•hand painted with two coats of oil based enamel paint
rust finish
•frames are acid dipped and left to oxidise (rust)
•they are brushed down and treated with a wax sealer
•it is important to oil the articulating joints seasonally
note
•this finish will leave rust marks on paving
•we do not recommend this finish for coastal homes
(see special finishes)
timber chair components
karri gum (eucalyptus myrtacaea)
•indigenous to western australia, grown and milled locally
in knysna (south africa)
•a hard dense utilitarian timber suitable for outdoor use
•naturaly pinkish brown to dark brown, left untreated assumes
an attractive grey colour, similar to that of teak
•simple characteristic curves are machined onto the slats
•backrests are steam bent to shape on selected chairs
painted finish

•the timber is first primed with an oil rich primer
•hand brushed with two coats of oil based enamel paint
•the high oil content of the enamel provides greater flexibility
to accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of timber exposed
to outdoor conditions
•the paint will chalk/dull and can tend to crack on the end
grain of timber components after time
oiled finish
•selected slats are stained to resemble the oily golden-brown
colour of teak
•two coats of oil rich timber preservative are applied; this
penetrates the timber, to protect and maintain it
•this application enables seasonal maintenance to be done
without having to remove the residue of old treatment
natural finish
•untreated timber has a natural reddish brown colour initially
•timber will roughen when exposed to contact with moisture.
scouring pads are provided to render them smoothe
•prolonged exposure to weather will transform the timber to
a silver grey colour and fine hairline cracks will develop

assembly
•timber components are secured to the frames with solid brass
or stainless steel screws
•this enables the removal of the wooden components for maintenance
or replacement
rubber feet
•an unobtrusive black rubber slipper purpose made to fit the
foot of the chairs/benches/recliners (not café chair)
•they help prevent damage to sensitive floor surfaces
note: these are not standard items – available as an option
(see price list)
table surfaces
metal
•these are only available on round tables
•electro-galvanised sheet metal is cut, formed and fitted
to a rolled steel hoop
•this results in a highly tensile surface and a table that
is light and easy to move
•hand painted with an oil-based paint, which provides a maintenance-friendly
surface
•it is the most practical surface for commercial use
timber

jarrah (eucalyptus marginata)
•highly durable hard wood, renown for its use in extreme conditions
outside ie constuction of jettys etc
•dark-reddish brown with natural variations in colour
occasionally marked with characteristic resin pockets
tasmanian oak (eucalyptus delegatensis)
•a species of eucalyptus from tasmania, known for its strength
and appearance of oak
•a light blonde timber, when oiled is a deep honey gold
note
•tasmanian oak is not as durable as jarrah and is suitable
for well covered and in-door areas only
construction
•plank format - this is suitable for areas completely exposed
to the full effects of the weather
•planks are attached individually to the table frame with
a
3 mm gap between them to accomodate moisture change
•some degree of movement will be visible as the surface ages
i.e. a cupping in the width the plank
•timber surfaces are available in an oiled or untreated natural
finish
•the oiled finish will need regular oiling to maintain the
condition, either monthly or seasonally according to the harshness
of the environment
•the untreated finish results in a fairly rustic surface,
fine hairline cracks develop on the surface and the end grain
•the natural reddish brown of the jarrah will gradually change
to an attractive soft silver grey which can be scrubbed down seasonally
to remove old fibre
stone

sandstone (thickness 30mm)
•a fine sedimentary stone supplied from quarries in mpumalanga
•a natural coloured stone in a subtle spectrum of
light brown, grey and rose
•available in flower or vein cut form
•every attempt is made to choose sound and pleasing surfaces
from stock before cutting to shape and grinding the edge to its
distinctive profile
•finished surfaces are honed to a non reflective finish
•stone surfaces are not attached to the frame, the weight
being sufficient to locate it (also facilitates easier moving)
•table surfaces are treated with a penetrating anti-fungal
sealer to help prevent stains from oily or acidic foods
note
•this is a one hundred percent natural product we cannot guarantee
exact replicas of colour and markings of sample surfaces
•customers are encouraged, when possible, to purchase the
stone viewed at the showroom or agency
•unsealed stone is susceptible to staining
it is necessary to maintain the sealed stone with a regular monthly
application of the sealant provided

to care for the specific finish of each order
•long periods of neglect will result in the furniture needing
